Prospect’s Employment Resource Centres (ERC) offer so much more than a place to update your resume or search for jobs. Day in and day out, these Centres can become many things to many people, including a place to simply reconnect, recharge and rediscover human kindness.
The following narrative was provided by our Prospect team member, Danny Primeau, who exemplifies not only our commitment to competence, but to caring and compassionate service.
“A couple of weeks ago, I met a woman who was carrying great sadness. She walked into our office and asked if she could use our Computer Room.
“Absolutely,” I replied. “And you’re going to love the woman working at the front desk. Her name is Melissa, and she’s incredible!”
Under her breath, the woman responded, “I doubt that.”
Later, as she was leaving, she stopped to chat with me and shared how impressed she was. Melissa had not only been knowledgeable and helpful, but genuinely kind.
A few days later, the woman returned. This time, I told her that another staff member was working in the Computer Room.
“I guarantee you’ll love Crystal too,” I said.
The woman smiled and replied that her luck was never that good.
As she was leaving, she called out to me from across the lobby, “Oh my God, Danny, two for two!”
I replied, “and when you come back, it will be 3 for 3.”
Moments like these remind me that kindness really does matter. Sometimes people arrive expecting disappointment because that's all they’ve ever known. Yet a single positive interaction, followed by another, can begin to restore their faith in people. Crystal and Melissa may have simply been doing their jobs, but their warmth, compassion, and willingness to help made a lasting impression.
