There’s a classy, new, art store inside the Kingsway Mall in Edmonton. Prospect Human Services has just launched its new social enterprise, Prospect Art Collective – an innovative retail store that showcases the artwork of our talented clients while fostering resiliency and teaching employment skills to cohorts of program participants.
In this warm, welcoming atmosphere, our clients participate in our Retail Mental Health program, learning how to serve the public, build job-related skills and gain confidence in a real-world, retail environment. This is a space where mental health is paramount, inclusive community is cherished, and mistakes are viewed as valuable learning opportunities and part of the growth process.
Can you see yourself getting involved with this program?
Have you ever considered being a Volunteer Peer Mentor? As a nonprofit charity organization, we need help from people who can devote the time and energy to make a difference in the lives of our program participants. A key component to our new Retail Mental Health program is the engagement of volunteers with lived experience. We are expanding our volunteer team and looking for enthusiastic people to join us!
Prospect is one of Alberta’s leading nonprofit organizations. We live by four words: Break barriers. Employ change. Yes, it’s right there under our logo. Anywhere people face barriers to employment, we’re there to help.
As a Volunteer Peer Mentor, our volunteers serve individuals trying to re-enter the workforce after facing long-term unemployment or mental health challenges. Many of our participants receive provincial income support (like AISH). Lived experience with mental health is a foundational requirement for this role. By sharing their own journeys, Volunteer Peer Mentors provide relatable examples that help clients see recovery and employment goals as achievable.
Our program helps them build skills and confidence through therapy, mentorship, on-the-job training, and long-term support once they find a job. Learn more about the role and the recruitment process here.
